Upcoming Webinar: Preparing for an HRPP site visit (5th Tuesday IRB training)
The federal Office for Human Research Protections is one of the federal agencies that oversees human subject research. Its purview includes assuring that institutions such as UAMS maintain compliance with the appropriate federal regulations pertaining to human subject protections. While most of OHRP’s oversight activities occur via written correspondence, the agency can also conduct site visits of institutions engaged in research, such as UAMS. These human research protection program (HRPP) site visits can include interviews of institutional officials, researchers, and IRB members.
A webinar titled HRPP Inspections: What to expect, what to do, and what not to do! is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 2 to 3:30 pm, in Walton Auditorium on the Cancer Institute’s 10th floor. That’s a 5th Tuesday so there’s no IRB meeting that day. Topics to be covered include how to prepare and host a human research protection program inspection, and possible outcomes of such inspections.
While UAMS has not undergone an onsite OHRP inspection in recent memory, a little preparation for the possibility goes a long way. For more information about OHRP’s Compliance Oversight program under which it does inspections, see the relevant page at OHRP’s website.
The UAMS Office of Research Compliance is hosting the webinar, and asks that you RSVP by Friday, Sept. 26, to Darri Scalzo (DLScalzo@uams.edu) or Charnise Virgil (CTVirgil@uams.edu). Snacks will be provided.
